GOOD NEWS: Steelers Reporter Confirms Positive Training Camp Development.NO.1

The Pittsburgh Steelers began padded practices on July 30, after being forced to take a raincheck the day before, and left tackle Broderick Jones was back on the field.

“Broderick Jones, who sustained a lower-body injury over the weekend, is back with the first-team OL in the early practice walkthrough,” The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo reported on X.

Later, DeFabo also shared a video of Jones participating in a light run-blocking drill. In it, the former first-round pick gets out of his stance cleanly, connecting with a defender upfield — a positive development for this Pittsburgh offense and blocking unit.

Yesterday, on July 29, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin revealed that the plan was for Jones to return from injury on Wednesday, and it appears there were no setbacks so far.

Jones has been dealing with a lower-body soft-tissue injury, and it has limited him for the past few practices. Per Steelers Now beat reporter Alan Saunders, “trainers put an extensive wrap around the right side of [Jones’] hip/groin area after individual drills on [July 27],” and we haven’t seen too much of the big man since.

Fortunately, Jones is now back in action, but the Pittsburgh offensive line is still missing one starter.

On July 29, ESPN beat reporter Brooke Pryor noted that “Mike Tomlin says he doesn’t have a timetable for [left guard] Isaac Seumalo to come off NFI [list]. [And] says he’s still ‘day-to-day.’”

Steelers Depot writer Alex Kozora shared a photo of Seumalo on the practice field in a Steelers hoodie on July 30, giving “pointers” to backup offensive lineman Doug Nester, among others.

The hope is that the Steelers can get all five starting offensive linemen on the field together for a portion of training camp, so that they regain some chemistry before Week 1.

2 Steelers Cuts Transferred to Injured Reserve

According to KPRC 2 NFL insider Aaron Wilson and the NFL transaction log, the Steelers also retained the rights of two of their recent roster cuts as they were waived with injury designations.

When this occurs, if the players pass through waivers, they are then transferred to the injured reserve. Those players were outside linebacker and special teamer Jeremiah Moon and undrafted wide receiver Montana Lemonious-Craig.

This designation ends each of their 2025 seasons, barring injury settlements.

When a roster cut is waived with an injury and transferred to the season-ending IR, the player has the right to pursue an injury settlement. If a settlement is pursued and reached between the player and the team, they are released with pay and cannot be signed by another team until the end of the agreed-upon length of recovery.

So, Moon and Lemonious-Craig’s return could be short-lived. Either way, neither will be suiting up for the Steelers in 2025.

Aaron Rodgers Breaks Up Steelers Training Camp Fight

To no surprise, there was a near-fight on the first day of padded practice at Steelers training camp. Although the peacemaker was somewhat unexpected.

“Calvin Austin III went toe-to-toe with Jalen Ramsey after a catch in 7-on-7,” Pryor reported on X. “The two chirped back and forth at each other until Aaron Rodgers stepped in and de-escalated the situation.”

There have been a lot of unsubstantiated rumors about Rodgers, the teammate, throughout his long and illustrious career. On July 30, in Latrobe, we saw Rodgers play the role of conciliator.
